Flair for Fashion/Phillipsborn
Outlet Specialty Stores

I tell groups that I worked in women's clothing for five years!

I was a(n) Store Manager/Assistant District Manager Outlet Specialty Stores, Richmond, VA (initial position Stock Clerk)

I worked an average of 20 hours/week during my last two years of high school and full-time subsequently for a women's specialty clothing store named Phillipsborn in Northern Virginia. When Phillipsborn's parent company acquired Flair for Fashion in Richmond and I graduated from high school, I applied to admission to VCU and transferred to be Assistant District Manager and managed the store at Southside Plaza. (Incidentally, Jim Akin and I are not related - my 1978 DMV photo illustrated my attempt at "fashion" - I gave it up after I figured out that I had to sit in "the chair" every six weeks to keep the hairstyle - check out another use for the hair - grin!)

I was able to help out with the planning and installation of one of the first computerized cash registers in the Richmond area. I'd been playing with computers since grade school so this was nothing new. (Laura Sanders mistakenly thought that Jim Akin and I were related.)
